November seventh's show: a broken shift key and a whole lotta silence

Tonight I fly solo. The lone bird. Separated from the pack.
I can't think of any more phrases that suggest solitude.

apparently, my shift key is on strike, so i will not be using it for the remainder of this blog.

here is the playlist from tonight's fabulous show:

1. video killed the radio star - buggles
2. london calling - the clash
2 1/2. parappa the rapper's car rap (with a female cop?)
3. take on me - a-ha
4. flew the coup - swan island
5. shine (in your mind) - the apples in stereo
6. the world has turned and left me here - weezer
7. rascuache - at the drive-in
8. track 15 - helvetia
9. time after time - cindy lauper
10. stephanie says - the velvet underground
11. new grace - high places
12. the big u - the blow
13. one more hour - sleater-kinney
14. cold cold water - mirah
15. south campus - charley zheng and riles johnson
16. a fond farewell - elliott smith
17. guilty - (yann tiersen - amelie soundtrack - ?)
18. if you don't cry - the magnetic fields
19. wedding bell - beach house

tonight's show was composed of a delicate mix of songs i adore and songs i am ashamed to adore. you can guess which are which if you didn't listen (or even if you did listen and just chose to ignore all of the speaking parts, which i actually highly recommend). i wish i could type out a written description of why i chose to play each song tonight, but i do not because of a mixed feeling of paranoia (of too many songs playing in a row and me not noticing) and lethargy. lethargic and paranoid...these words actually describe me very well.

anyway, it's kind of scary not having a co-host. i find that i often just start talking and talking to fill the silence. it's exactly the same feeling as when you are talking to someone you like, more specifically someone who you like who intimidates the shit out of you.

all in all, fun show.

Halloweenie

Since it's 3:31 in the morning, I've decided this is the perfect time to begin actually using this blog. I think that the show tonight was probably the highlight of my halloween. I maybe kind of sort of remembered today that I don't like halloween that much (so I'm not capitalizing it); at least one thing goes horribly awry every year.

(SUB-TOPIC: 'Awry' is my new favorite word. Up until a few years ago, I thought it was pronounced 'AHH-ree'. A little embarrassing)

For one thing, the weather always blows. It's always cold and/or rainy, which I would usually appreciate; the fact that I don't automatically means there's something wrong with the day. My costume almost never comes out right. I always, ALWAYS feel nauseous all day, even pre-candy.

Today, my body had a civil war. Cool.

Still, this halloween was better than most. For one thing, I didn't end up sobbing over a toilet dressed as Harry Potter. I also didn't have a lopsided Care Bear head on (second grade hellooooooooo). But I'm not here to complain (yeah right)!

Even though I showed up fashionably late, I still had a fabulous time. We made a new friend, another Natalie, who we deemed 'Hydro'. We had some great talks off air and some mediocre ones on air. I was accused of having taken acid and I admitted that I own the first season of Viva La Bam; Katia revealed her love for Randy Newman and introduced the sidebite.

Unfortunately, I don't have Katia's playlist, but here is mine:

1. Heart of Chambers--Beach House
2. Yo Yo Bye Bye--Why?
3. Rat Is Dead (Rage)--CSS
4. Everybody Needs Somebody to Love--The Blues Brothers
5. The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth--Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
6. I Love LA--Randy Newman
<> Family Guy: Randy Newman clip
7. Knife (Girl Talk Remix)--Grizzly Bear
8. Canterbury Tales Prologue--Norton English Anthology
9. No One Else Live (Acoustic)--WEEZER
10. Teen Age Riot--Sonic Youth
11. Teeath--Teeath

Wow, look at all those parentheses! Okay, so even if there are only 3 sets, that's more than yr average playlist has. Maybe someday we'll do a parentheses-themed show.

Anyway, I think next week will be strictly nineties-themed.
